San Antonio VA Eligibility Requirements

The VA requires service members to meet minimum service requirements before qualifying for a VA loan. You must also present a valid Certificate of Eligibility (COE) as one of the formal requirements. To be eligible for a VA loan, you must meet at least one of the following requirements:

  • Served for a minimum of 90 consecutive days of active service during times of war;
  • Served for 181 days of active service during peacetime;
  • Served for six years of service in the National Guard or Reserves;
  • Your spouse, who was a service member, died in the line of duty;
  • You are the spouse of a service who incurred a service-related disability.

Your eligibility remains if you were discharged for:

  • Hardship, or at the government’s convenience, or due to a need to reduce the number of active military personnel; 
  • A medical condition or a service-connected disability;
  • An early-out, having served a minimum of 21 months of a 2-year enlistment.

Aside from these benefits, you must also provide additional requirements as the lender prescribes.

What is a San Antonio VA Home Loan?
VA Home Loans are for active duty service members, active reservists, honorably discharged service members, as well as retired and disabled service members.VA stands for “Veterans Administration”, which oversees all Veteran benefits including home loans. Established in 1944 and part of the GI Bill or Rights, VA set out to help men and women who served their country catch up to their civilian counterparts by establishing credit and building financial wealth.
