  • Pre-approval

Getting pre-approved is the step after pre-qualification. Pre-approval is a much more “involved” procedure since you must present yourself to the lender. 

During pre-approval, you’ll be asked to complete the application process, submit documents, and go through verification and underwriting. Lenders will often provide a “conditional commitment” for the loan amount so that you can look for homes to buy.

The pre-approval process will include a complete review of your financial background. Lenders will pull and check your credit. Your file will be processed as if you found a house to purchase. After the verification process, your file will go through Underwriting to ensure all T’s are crossed and I’s dotted. After the underwriter reviews your file and documents, you will be given a “conditional approval.” You need a specific property to match the approval amount.
